Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.
Viewers can expect discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
